James "Jim"
Theurer
Mar 30, 1935 — Apr 16, 2018
Mandan
James "Jim" Theurer peacefully passed from this world into the arms of the Lord on April 16, 2018.
Jim was born on March 30, 1935 to Bernard and Bertha (Klein) Theurer. He was raised on a farm north of Carson, ND with his six brothers and four sisters.
Jim married the love of his life, Lorraine Gomke, on June 5, 1955 in Carson. Lorraine affectionately described him as "a real cowboy" when she met him. Jim and Lorraine were blessed with four sons; Douglas (Deborah), Dickinson, ND; Darrell (Luella), Bismarck, ND; Craig (Nancy) Lincoln, ND, James Jr. (Char) Wilton, ND and one daughter Roxann (Jim) Haag, Fairfield, ND. Jim and Lorraine created a beautiful and loving family which includes their 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Jim and Lorraine lived in Elgin for 51 years before moving to Mandan in 2015.
Jim was a hard worker and took great pride in mastering his craft. At 16 he began a decade of work as a ranch hand. He then worked 22 years of road construction, which included building I-94 through Medora, and the I-94 exit ramps for Bismarck and Mandan. Jim created his first of three successful business ventures when he constructed J&L Apartments in Elgin, which he managed with his wife Lorraine. He later launched Theurer's Carpentry, which he ran for 10 years and then started J&J Recycling which he ran for 25 years. Jim loved having his children and grandchildren by his side when he worked. At the time, Jim's family thought they we were simply helping make money but have since come to discover they were making unforgettable memories. Jim also used this time as an opportunity to teach one of his many life lessons, including "If you can party, you can work.", a lesson frequently used with his sons when waking them up at 6:00 am.
Jim loved to travel with Lorraine and embarked on many adventures with her across the US and Canada, including 8 bus tours and a trip to Hawaii. Jim never passed up an opportunity to visit with friends, family, or someone he had just met. He also grabbed every possible chance to tell one of his many jokes.
He is survived by his wife; children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; his brother Richard, Bowman, ND; his sisters Connie Ness, Bismarck, ND; Betty Gruenberg, Hawley, MN; Bunny Malm, Bismarck, ND; and Sharron Wolf, Detroit Lakes, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Bertha, and his brothers, Kenneth, Myron, Mike, David and Dennis.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 19 at 11:00 am CST (10:00 MST) at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 904 8th Ave SE, Mandan, ND. Rev. Ryan Wolfe will officiate and following a time of fellowship and lunch, burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Elgin, ND at 2:30 pm MST (3:30 CST).
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, from 4:00-6:00 pm CST (3:00-5:00 MST) at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 904 8 th Ave SE, Mandan, ND.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial has been established to the Little Lambs Learning Center, P.O. Box 156, Mandan, ND 58554. Condolences to the Theurer family can be sent through our website at www.evansonjensenfuneralhome.com.
