James Francis Seiler was born July 8, 1929 in McIntosh, SD to George R. Sr. and Amelia (Labor) Seiler.  He attended Hump Butte Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1947.  After graduating from high school, Jim attended agriculture classes at the University of Brookings, SD.  He then came back and started farming and ranching with his Dad.

He married Beverly Watson on November 27, 1952 and they went into a farm and ranch partnership with his brother Joe.   Joe eventually purchased a farm south of Raleigh, ND and Jim took over the family farmstead where they raised their 7 kids.  They formed a partnership with their son, Jerome, and in 1978, moved into McIntosh.

He was an active member of St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church all his life and in his early years he came to church with his parents in a horse and buggy.  He was awarded by the Corson County Soil Conservation District for Outstanding Farmer of the Year in 1977.

He enjoyed driving around the country side looking at crops and cattle.  He also enjoyed the time spent with DuWayne Olson.  In the summer of 1953, he was diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia.  Throughout the years this disease started to slow him down and eventually took his life.

Jim passed away on Tuesday morning, April 22, 2014 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.
