James LeRoy Heim was born on September 29, 1942 in Elgin, ND to William and Leontina (Frey) Heim. He attended school at Elgin Public School through 8 th grade. At the age of 13, Jim worked for August and Ida Bachmann on their farm. Five years later, Jim worked construction, and he loved it. Jim made many lifelong friends including Keith Cleveland, a special friend who we still keep close to us.

After a couple of years working construction, Jim returned to Elgin and worked at the Coast to Coast Store for many years. During this time, he renovated his parents' home.

In 1965, Jim married the love of his life, Maxcine (Borchert) Heim. To this union, a son, LeRoy James, was born in 1966 and a daughter, Michelle Lee, was born in 1973. His children were the joy of his life.

In 1977, Jim started his own business "Jim's Plumbing and Excavation". Over the years, he built up a very successful business. Jim and his employees serviced customers over a large area of southwest North Dakota. After developing rheumatoid arthritis, Jim had to close his plumbing business and had an auction in 1995.

Jim has been a Lions member for many years, an organization he was very proud of. He enjoyed and worked hard to help build the bathrooms and the "Hamburgers in the Park" building at the park. Jim was president of the organization several times, receiving "Lion of the Year" and the "Melvin Jones Fellow" awards. When his health permitted, he was very active in the club and enjoyed it. Jim loved the Elgin Community and made so many dear friends which he truly loved.

Jim loved his family. Two of his greatest blessings were his grandchildren, Hunter and Kiara. Jim loved hunting and fishing, especially with his children and grandchildren.Boating and fishing with his grandkids and attending their various sporting events were some of Papa's happiest times. His kids and his grandkids were his pride and joy. As his health diminished, Jim cherished their visits and all those wonderful hugs.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Maxcine, Elgin, ND; son and daughter-in-law, LeRoy James and Barbara Heim, Rapid City, SD; daughter, Michelle Lee Koepplin and special friend David Siegfried, Mott, ND; 2 grandchildren, Hunter and Kiara Koepplin, both of New Leipzig, ND; 1 brother and 2 sisters-in-law,  Ralph and Edith Heim, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; and Verla Heim, Dickinson, ND; 2 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Betty and Ivan Morse, Belding, MI; Linda and Wesley Peterson, Elgin, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
