Obituary

Jack Wallace, age 90, of Lemmon, SD, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday September 22nd, 2022. Services will be held on October 7th, 2022 at 10am at Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lemmon, SD with Florence Hoff officiating.

Jack Wallace was born in Winner, SD on August 3rd, 1932 to Ralph and Isabel Wallace. At the age four, Jack was admitted to SDDC-Redfield. He lived there until January of 1987 when at the age of 51, he came to live in Lemmon at Live, Inc. Jack just celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by all of his friends.

Jack loved to work. He worked for Wheelers Manufacturing in Live, Inc.'s workshop for 34 years, retiring in 2020 at the age of 88. Jack was also known to love shredding paper for Live, Inc for many years. Staff at Live note that he would ensure they were doing household tasks correctly and would let them know if they weren't doing something up to his standards.

Jack was unable to speak but that didn't mean he couldn't communicate. He loved to visit with everyone and would smile and get a twinkle in his eye when someone would visit with him. Jack was so kind and gentle. He loved children and would gravitate towards a baby and babies loved Jack too. He just had a way of making adults and children feel at ease with his calm demeanor. Jack was an avid sports fan and could be seen at many Lemmon sporting events. He was a member of the Lemmon Sports Boosters club. He loved to be outside in the yard and helping garden. Some of Jack's hobbies were dominoes and car collecting. Jack loved going around the community to sporting events, dances, the circus or concerts. Jack truly loved the community of Lemmon and the small rural life where he could enjoy seeing the farms, animals, trucks and tractors. He enjoyed music and sometimes would dance when asked, but especially enjoyed getting back rubs from anyone who would offer them. A person could always count on getting a big smile from Jack and he would brighten anyone's day because he made a person feel like they hung the moon.

Jack is survived by all his friends at Live, Inc. who were considered his family and special friend, Brenda Even. He will be missed but we are comforted knowing that he had a long, happy life here in Lemmon.
