Funeral services for Iver C. Wick, 87, lifelong Ralph, SD farmer, will be Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ralph Lutheran Church. Rev. Stephanie Swanson will officiate and burial will follow at the Ralph Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday afternoon.
IVER C. WICK was born on December 31, 1921 in Foster, Nebraska to Andrew C. and Anna C. (Weston) Wick. Due to the lack of medical care and the threat of severe weather, Anna traveled from the homestead at Ralph to Nebraska to give birth. Iver grew up on the homestead and attended 8 years of school at the Southwest School in Twin Township. There were many years that the teacher lived with the Wick family. Iver boarded in Reeder while attending Reeder High School where he graduated in 1939.
Iver was united in marriage to Jean F. McCarty on July 9, 1944 in Rapid City, SD. Iver and Jean returned to the Ralph area where they made their home on the farm. Two children were born to this union, Coranne and Warren.
Iver enjoyed going to dances, fishing, playing cards and having coffee with the neighbors. A yearly tradition was started with neighbors coming for a card party at Iver and Jean's on New Year's Eve to celebrate Iver's birthday and the New Year.
Iver will be missed by his family and friends. He could always be counted on to help a neighbor. His love of farming was evident by his care of his machinery, livestock and land. There were times when little pigs were behind the stove when they needed warming and on occasion a calf could be found in the bathtub.
