Obituary

Iona (Ione) Mae Ingram was born September 25, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska to Clara Janssen Ingram and Leo Ingram. When Ione was two, they moved to the Flasher area and later to Lark. Ione attended grade school in Flasher. She was blessed to be walked to and from school by her aunts and uncles.

Ione graduated from Roosevelt Public High School in Carson and immediately attended Dickinson Teachers College where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught at three country schools and passed on her love of teaching and learning to her children.

Ione married William Dean (Bill) Scholes July 31, 1948. They ranched south of Brisbane for fifty years, retiring to their cozy home in Carson. Ione and Bill were blessed with six children: Douglas (Marsha); Greg (Karen); Jennifer Scholes; Becky (Colin) Cofer; Carmen (Randy) Iwen; and Candice (Jim) Bentz.

Ione liked to say they continued farming in town, with their large garden, fruit trees, and beautifully landscaped yard.

Ione was deeply devoted to her God, church, family and community. In the 1980s, she entered the GIFTS (Growing in Faith to Serve) program, through which she served churches in Carson, Flasher, Elgin and her original home church of Bethesda. She particularly enjoyed time at the Luther Seminary in St. Paul and at Richardton Abbey.

Ione passed from this life on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at CHI St. Alexius in Bismarck, ND.

Ione is survived by her sisters Lee Moos and Lola Bryant; sister-in-law Bettie Ingram; her sons Douglas and Gregory; daughters Jennifer, Becky, Carmen and Candice; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, brother George Ingram, sisters Mildred Wolfer and Veronica Faller, and grandson Richard Aaron Scholes.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
