In her early 20's she moved to Bismarck, ND and worked as a cook. She met John Schwarzwalter and they were married in Bismarck on July 3, 1952. Hilda went with John to a ranch in northern Harding County, SD, south of Reeder, ND were she was active with the daily operations of the ranch.
