Funeral services for Hertha D. Schuchhardt, age 92 of Dupree, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Dupree United Church of Christ. Pastor Pauline Webb will officiate with burial in the Dupree Cemetery.

Special music will be provided by Kathy Schuchhardt, pianist and Becky Schuchhardt, soloist.

Serving as Honorary Casketbearers are Hertha's granddaughters, Debbie Wilbourn, LeAnn Vandine, Robin Schuchhardt, Sonja Steffen, Tara Keierleber, Becky Schuchhardt, Stephanie Perry, Nicole Schuchhardt, Kristin Redford, Amy Steffensen, and all family and friends.

Serving as Active Casketbearers are her Hertha's grandsons, Scott Hertel, Eric Schuchhardt, Ryan Schuchhardt, Daryl Schuchhardt, Adam Schuchhardt, John Schuchhardt, Mark Hertel, Eddie Schuchhardt, Derek Osterholt, Andrew Schuchhardt, Marty Duane, Loren Schuchhardt, Eric Henderson, Mike Henderson, Rick Edwards, Chip Edwards, and Justin Redford.

HERTHA D. FREY was born July 2, 1916 in Charles Mix, County near Delmont, SD. She was the daughter of Edward and Katrina (Wiederrich) Frey. She was confirmed in the Reformed Church in Delmont, SD. She attended a country school until the family moved to Scotland, SD where she finished the 8th grade. Hertha moved to Dupree in 1935 to work for her sister Laura Ehresman and her husband Hank on the farm.

She was united in marriage to Ervin Schuchhardt on April 26, 1936. They began their life together on a farm west of Dupree where they farmed and ranched together. Fourteen children were born to this union, Mary, Donald, Doris, Alvin, Laverne, twins Garry and Larry, Georgia, David, Robert, Thomas, Craig, Cathy, and Steven.

Her husband Ervin passed away on January 28, 1966. Hertha continued farming with sons, Donald, Larry, Garry and David. In 1980, she sold the farm to Donald and Larry, but she continued to live on the home place. In 2006, due to health reasons, Hertha moved to Rapid City where she has resided at a nursing home. She passed from this life on Tuesday evening, March 24, 2009 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital at the age of 92 years, 8 months, 22 days.

Hertha was a member of the Dupree United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship, the Merifu Extension Club, and the Dupree Senior Citizens. She was Dupree Mother of the Year in 1967, and enjoyed quilting, baking, and cooking large meals for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. She loved playing cards, especially pinochle and whist.

Keeping her in their fondest memories are her six sons, Donald (Luetta) of Dupree, SD, Alvin (Virginia) of Virginia Beach, VA, Garry of Dupree, SD, David (Kathy) of Faith, SD, Craig (Cher) of Des Moines, IA, and Steven (Diane) of Arlington, SD; four daughters, Mary (Norman) Hertel of Lead, SD, Doris Schuchhardt of Sturgis, SD, Georgia Osterholt of Rapid City, SD, and Cathy (Bill) Duane of Valley Park, MO, 27 grandchildren, and 37 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ervin, 4 sons, Laverne, Larry, Robert and Thomas, a grandson, Michael, 4 sisters Paulina, Laura, Martha and Ruth, and 2 brothers, Alfred and Reinhold Frey.

A memorial has been established to the Dupree United Church of Christ and St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Visitation will be Friday 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Faith Area Memorial Chapel in Faith and on Saturday one hour prior to services at the Dupree United Church of Christ.
