A private graveside service for Herman C. Block, age 75, of McIntosh, will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, October 24, at the McIntosh Cemetery.


HERMAN CLARENCE BLOCK was born June 3, 1930 in Sioux County, ND to Erick Sr. and Mary (Debowey) Block. He grew up on a farm west of Selfridge and attended a country school. On February 26, 1952, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and was discharged on February 9, 1954. Herman moved to McIntosh where he worked for area farmers and ranchers. He was united in marriage to Ruby Harrison on February 22, 1955 in McIntosh. They lived in McIntosh where Herman began working for the Corson County Highway Department. He operated heavy equipment for the county, did Sheriff work, and worked part time doing police work and maintenance work for the City of McIntosh. Born to this union where five children, Julie, Ray, Phyllis, Bradley, and Tracy. Herman retired from the highway department in 1992. Since his retirement he worked at the city landfill.

Herman passed away on Thursday, October 20, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

He was a member of the American Legion, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving family members include his wife, Ruby, McIntosh, SD; 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Ray Block, Whitewood, SD; Bradley and Renell Block, Bismarck, ND; 3 daughters and 1 son-in-law, Julie and Richard Friesz, New Leipzig, ND; Phyllis Lloyd, Watertown, SD; Tracy Schaunaman, Aberdeen, SD; 9 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Johnny Block, Florence, OR; Eddie Block, McIntosh, SD; 1 sister, Arlene Schick, Flasher, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Harry, Amos, Myron, and Erick Jr.
