HERBERT HENRY HABERSTROH was born December 28, 1915 at Willa, ND to Carl and Elizabeth (Kirsch) Haberstroh. He attended Steiner Country School near his home and at an early age began working on the family farm. He served in the CCC's working on various projects in North Dakota and Minnesota. Herbert was inducted into the U.S. Army on 3 December 42 and was discharged on 7 April 45.

Herbert was united in marriage to Elma Tetzloff on May 21, 1945 at Baker, MT. They lived on his parents place north of Burt for one year and then moved to their own place 2 miles south where they farmed and ranched until 1958. They then purchased a farm southwest of Leith which they operated until 1982 when they moved into Carson. He continued to help on the farm even though he was retired as he appreciated farm life and working.

Farming was his life beginning with teams of horses until four wheel drive tractors with air conditioning. He loved to read. He enjoyed bowling after they moved into Carson. He also enjoyed working with wood, building a storage bench and stairway railing. He was always tinkering on a motor or finding something to do. They were members of Emmaus Congregational Church where he served as a Deacon, usher, and caretaker. He was a man of faith and faithfully said the German table prayer.
