HENRY JOHN FREY was born on September 29, 1944 in Elgin, ND to John and Pauline (Ruff) Frey.  He grew up in the Elgin area and attended Elgin School.  Henry married the love of his life Marleen Golke on February 23, 1965.  The couple had four beautiful children together, Calvin, Brenda, Amanda, and Gardell.

Henry started working for Art Stelter where he earned his name "Handy Hank" and lived in New Leipzig, ND above Bader's Implement.  He worked for several area farmers and ranchers, Farmers Union, and Dittus Incorporated.  He and Marleen moved to the family farm west of Elgin in the late 1960's where he started his own business, Hank's General Repair and 24 hour Wrecking Service.  He remained there until his passing on August 27, 2021.

You could always find Henry up at the shop working on some vehicle he just had to get done, but he had a very happy family life with the love of his life, Marleen.  He was very proud of his grandchildren and loved watching them grow up.  Henry taught himself to be the best mechanic throughout ND and would take on new challenges others didn't want to touch.

Henry will be greatly missed by so many because he was very well known and always had a smile on his face and everyone he met was a long time friend.  Henry's nephew Bo was his mechanic partner, taking the place of his brother Ruben after his passing.  Bo was always just a phone call away whenever Henry needed help.  They helped each other to be more successful and get things done!

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marleen, 2 sons Calvin (Ruby) Frey, Bowman, ND; Gardell Frey, Mandan, ND; 2 daughters Brenda (Tim) Reineke, Bismarck, ND; Amanda Frey, Bismarck, ND; 8 grandchildren Alicia, Jasmine, Marcus, Madi, Desarae, Austin, Abby, and Miracle; 4 great-grandchildren Tucker, LaKayla, Zaelynn, and Tinsley; 2 brothers Chris (Donna)) Frey, Bismarck, ND; Albert (Darlene) Frey, Mott, ND; 3 sisters Katherine Wyman, Bowman, ND; Helen (Dave) Reineke, Elgin, ND; Wanda (Wade) Dachtler, Elgin, ND; 2 brothers-in-law Jerrold (Cindy) Golke, Bismarck, ND; Mark (Peggy) Golke, Mandan, ND; sister-in-law Darleen Stevahn, Bismarck, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth Frey, twin brothers in infancy, brother Ruben, brother-in-law Jack Wyman, nephew Michael Frey, granddaughter Katherine Frey, and great-grandson Jaxon Reineke.

The family has established a memorial.
