Helen Green, age 96 of Mott, ND passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Mott.

HELEN ALVINA GREEN was born on April 1, 1924 to Fred and Caroline (Kaseman) Oberlander, near the Teepee Buttes where she was raised with her 12 siblings on the family farm. Helen attended Teepee Butte School through the eighth grade and graduated from high school in Mott in 1943.

On February 1, 1944 Helen was united in a marriage that was   sustained over 72 years to Harvey L. Green in Wibaux, Montana. They lived south of Mott for many years where Helen was a true farm wife working alongside Harvey while raising their children and maintaining a spotless home and beautiful yard and garden. They moved to Mott in 1968. Harvey and Helen spent many winters in Arizona enjoying the warm climate and making more lifelong friends. They became residents of the Good Samaritan Society in Mott in November 2014.

Helen was a woman of many skills, much ambition and racy      one-liners. She made the most delicious food and was known for her caramel rolls, kuchen and knoephla soup. Helen knit and crocheted countless items, created beautiful flower gardens, took painting    lessons, and loved playing cards, especially bridge. She also golfed and bowled. Helen was instrumental in starting the TOPS organization in Mott. She also worked at Borth clothing, cooked at the Curve, drove school bus, served as deputy sheriff for Earl Kramer and was active in her church.  Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family fiercely!   In her later years she suffered from mental illness that caused her to lose interest in most everything that had once been vital in her life. She passed away peacefully on the morning of December 26, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Mott.

Helen is survived by her daughter Rhonda (Jim) Rossman, Cold Spring, MN; daughter-in-law Cathy Green Mott, ND;  her grand-children John (Rachel) Rossman, Jocelyn (Josh) Hirschfeld, Jessica (Don) Scott, William Green, Tyler (Mandy) Green, Charles Green, her nine great-grandchildren  Easton, Emery and Drew Rossman, Ava and Ben Hirschfeld, Rayelle and River Scott,  and Rylee and Kaycee Green.  She is also survived by her brother Harold Oberlander and wife Vaudeth, and brother-in-law Bill Bruckner.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Harvey in May 2016, her son Raymond in October 2020, her parents Fred and Caroline Oberlander, six sisters and spouses Pauline Schwartz, Ida Sprecher, Rose Hoffer, Tillie Rosenow, Elsie Johnson, Betty Ruggles, and Lorraine Bruckner, and four brothers and spouses Adam, Fred, Bennie, and Edward.
