Harold Benjamin Gall was born on April 8, 1920, at Hillside, MT. He was the son of Gust and Amelia (Kautz) Gall. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Watauga, SD on October 12, 1952. He attended country school in Montana until he was 11. At that time his family purchased land and moved north of McIntosh, SD. He continued his elementary education at the country school near his home and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1940.
Harold entered the Army on March 21, 1942, and served in the North African and European theaters and received an honorable discharge on October 3, 1945. Harold married Minnie Rieger on December 2, 1950, in Minneapolis. They had two daughters, Charleen and Coleen. The couple purchased land north of McIntosh. Together, Harold and Minnie established a ranching operation. Harold had a willingness to explore new ideas and expressed it with the motto: ""I'll try anything twice."" Harold and Minnie spent time dancing, getting together with friends and were always ready for a game of Pinochle or Whist.
They moved from the ranch and built a home in McIntosh in 1977. In retirement, they traveled the country with friends, attended Army reunions and visited their many brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren. Harold especially enjoyed teaching his unique fishing techniques to his grandchildren. He was known to share his catch and loved having friends over for ""fish fry"" parties. He entered cookies in the county fair and at age 90, was still baking pie (rhubarb was his favorite). He enjoyed gardening and shared his asparagus, rhubarb and winter onions.
Harold was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He passed from this life on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
