Obituary

The funeral service for Hanna F. Iversen, age 95 of Murdo, will be held at 2:00pm CT, Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Murdo Methodist Church in Murdo, SD.  Pastor Rick Hazen and Pastor Mark Phillips will officiate with burial in the Murdo City Cemetery.

Hanna Flatmoe was born on May 11 th , 1923, in Innset Norway to Kristoffer and Petra (Kornstad) Flatmoe. Hanna was their first child of six; Hanna, Ingrid, Clara, Iver, Harold, and Kenneth.

On May 16, 1929, at a tender age of 6, Hanna and family set sail aboard the Stavangersfjord for a 9 day trip to America. Arriving in New York with all the difficulties of not knowing the English language, they were processed through Ellis Island to enter the country. They then travelled another 3 days by train arriving May 28, 1929 in Lemmon, SD, where they were met by Hanna's grandmother and uncle, who had a car. Hanna and the family experienced their first automobile ride in a 1927 Whippet car, to the Kornstad homestead southeast of Meadow, SD.

Hanna started school that fall of 1929 with all the challenges of learning a new language. Throughout her life, she often told of how she learned English at school and returned home to assist her parents and sibling. Hanna attended grade school at Meadow Central and Coal Springs and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1942.

Hanna married Robert L Lensegrav in June 1943. To this union three children were born; Louise, Richard and Wayne. Here the family operated a farm and dairy. Hanna worked as a nurse's aide in Lemmon, and then decided to attend the nursing school at St. Mary's in Pierre, SD in 1967, where she graduated as an LPN in 1968. She was very proud of this achievement.

Hanna worked a short time in Pierre after her graduation.  She met the love of her life George Iverson.  She then went to work in Kadoka, SD for 3 years and then returned to ranch life.

Hanna and George were married on August 16, 1971. This union added George's children; Georganna, Chris and Roy to the family.

George and Hanna thoroughly enjoyed the ranch life together, full of many grand adventures and memories.

They later retired and moved to Murdo, SD, but still they loved their winters as snow birds in Apache Junction, AZ, which they did for over 30 years. They spent many wonderful years with family and friends there.

Because of failing health, in September 2018, George and Hanna moved to the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon with hope of recovery from a fall. She passed away on October 5 th , with her daughter and husband by her side.

Hanna's passion was reading and crossword puzzles. She found great pleasures in having a cup of coffee and a sweet treat with family and friends. All were considered dear to her.

Hanna held family and friendship with a big heart, always willing to offer her wisdom in her strong, special way. She will be missed dearly by all.
