Gregory Allen Froelich was born to John and Alice (Heinitz) Froelich in Lemmon, SD on August 22, 1958. He was the 4th of 9 children. He attended school in Lemmon and grew up on the family farm west of town. After high school he spent years working on farms/ranches and in the oilfield. He crossed paths with Shelly Hendricks at a party; and they were married in 1980. Their only child, Kristy, was born in 1981. They lived around Lemmon and Hettinger those first few years; and moved to Sidney, MT in 1986. Greg worked in the oilfield and for a cement company while in Sidney. They lived in Glendive, MT for a year where he ran a cement plant. Their family relocated back to Hettinger in 1993 where Greg worked construction with Jimmy Melling; and Shelly opened her own store. Greg started his own business shortly after and purchased his first 40-foot manlift. Froelich Painting/Construction was born. There were few barns or church steeples that didn't have him and his crew working on them at some point over the years. Greg and his partner Delbert Woodley worked together for over 20 years. Family members like Kristy, Terry and Corie each helped in the summers at some point over the years and earned their construction nicknames. More gallons of paint than a person could count were put on each summer; with pole barn buildings built as well. RZ's car wash was a project he built in 1999. Greg had a lot of pride in building something right and having quality in his work. He eventually built his own home which he and Shelly still reside in. He retired from painting/construction work in 2015 after he helped build the Bowman Lodge. He kept busy in his shop, helping his neighbors and family with their projects. A guy like him was never without tools or advice on how it should be done properly. His grandkids knew he had candy in his bib pockets and that ice cream was part of bedtime with papa.
Greg left us on Sunday, May 7, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Shelly; daughter Kristy and son-in-law Ryan Pagel; and his three grandchildren Paige, Cooper and Kenzie. He is survived by all his siblings; sisters-in-laws Cindy Lien, Connie Henricks and Wanda (Joe) Clausen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice and his in-laws Pete and Yvonne.
