Obituary

On Friday, October 4 th , Grace Chamness, loving wife and mother of 5, passed away at age 93.

She was born on May 30, 1926 on the family farm outside of Faith, South Dakota.  Grace was welcomed at home by her parents, George and Laura Ulrich.  She was the youngest of the family with 2 brothers, Gene and Daniel, and 2 sisters, Rita and Dorothy.

She graduated early from high school and entered into nurse's training in 1943 in Pierre, SD.  The students were allowed to attend dances and that is where she met her future husband, Earl Chamness. (When we kids would ask him how he met mom, Dad would say she was sitting on the pool table and wouldn't get off.  Naturally we believed him)

Grace had a passion for her nursing and participation in her church.  She was always an active volunteer for bake sales, dinners or any other project. Grace was a member of Catholic Daughters of America for over 50 years. She was instrumental in establishing the group in Faith.  Grace was an active member of the Faith Historical Society and secretary of the Faith History Book 2010.  She was also secretary for the Faith High School Alumni Association.  Grace was an avid collector of calendars.    She was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Grace was preceded in death by her father, George, and her mother, Laura, her husband, Earl, and 3 children, Michael George, Clare Margaret and Annette Colleen (Stith) and sisters, Rita and Dorothy, and brother, Eugene.

She is survived by daughters, Melanie Eads, Albuquerque, NM, and Michele McCain, Faith, and one brother, Daniel (Doris) Ulrich.

She was the grandmother of 5, great grandmother of 8 and great great grandma to 2, as well as "Aunt  Grace" to several nieces and nephews.

Condolences may be sent to P.O. Box 254, Faith, South Dakota, 57626.  A memorial has been established.
