Gottlieb Schmierer was born on October 26, 1919 to Christian and Christina (Orth) Schmierer at Tappen, ND. He was raised at Tappen along with his 15 siblings and attended school there. When he was a young man he moved to Idaho and began working in the logging industry. He returned to North Dakota a short time later and met and fell in love with his soon to be bride, Martha Seidel. They were united in marriage on February 8, 1943 at Jamestown, ND. They began their life together on a farm south of Lemmon, SD. In 1945, they moved to Lemmon and raised their family.

Gottlieb worked as a meat cutter and also delivered dairy products in North and South Dakota for Nick's Produce until its closing. He then began work with Lemmon Construction doing concrete work and then worked for the City of Lemmon until retiring. His greatest joy was his girls, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved to fish, play rummy (usually coming up the winner most of the time), dancing with Martha and making the best sausage in the world. He was also honored to have been able to dance with his granddaughters at their wedding and walk his daughters down the aisle on their wedding day.

Gottlieb was a member of Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as a Church Elder. He will be remembered as a hard working, kind and caring person and a loving father, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend.

Gottlieb passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD.
