Obituary

Gordon Chester Timboe was called home to his loving Savior on Monday, May 18, 2015 at his home with his wife and daughter at his side.

Gordon was born on April 19, 1926 to Gustav and Christina Knopfle Timboe near the rural community of Russell, ND in north central North Dakota. Gordon attended high school at nearby Bottineau High School where he graduated in 1944. Two days after graduation, Gordon and a number of classmates were sworn into service with the US Navy and served in the Pacific until 1946. It was there where Gordon lost his hearing due to a bomb explosion on his ship. Immediately following his medical discharge from the Navy, Gordon enrolled at the North Dakota School of Forestry, Bottineau where he received a degree in accounting. Gordon was very proud that he also played hockey and basketball at Bottineau. Following his graduation, Gordon worked for the North Dakota Selective Service visiting each county seat in North Dakota several times to enroll men into the Selective Service.

In his travels he met Charlotte Striegel-Stroscher of Carson, ND whom he married on June 11, 1965. Gordon was introduced to farming, ranching, and dairy farming by and with Charlotte. This showed the patience that Gordon exuded every day, never to raise his voice, even to his daughters. The ranch ended up being Gordon's pride and joy. He loved to share it with his grandchildren who loved to ride the John Deere loader tractor with him in their special seat (a wood box and a tarp strap) he made for them. His patience and smile made him Grandpa Timboe to all children no matter their age or family. Letting them help with chores, climb on bales, or drive the pickup was always a treat he shared. Gordon and Charlotte moved to Carson in 2001 and extended their farming habit by having an acreage on which they continued to raise chickens, bottle lambs and calves. Gordon was a lifetime member of the American Legion and also of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an active member of the Emmaus Congregational Church of Carson for many years where he served as a lay minister and church treasurer.

Gordon and Charlotte raised two wonderful daughters, Neva Jane (Jeff) Hamre of Leonard, ND, and Nyra Jean (Rod) Ruscheinsky of Carson, ND, nine grandchildren; Haley (Patrick) Kalina, Alexandria, MN. Kayl, Mackenzie, and Jorun Hamre all of Leonard, ND; Lindsey, Carly, Skyler, Cody, and Beau Ruscheinsky, all of Carson, ND, and Great Grandchildren, Samuel and Amelia Kalina.

Gordon was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox against the Yankees, Charlotte's favorite team. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and their special talents. You would often see him at their sporting events and if he couldn't be there in person, he would always call and say "good job", in his proud, high pitch grandpa voice. One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards with friends and especially his grandchildren who seemed to win more than he. Nobody had a more genuine smile than Gordon in pictures with his grandchildren.

Preceeding him in death were his parents, two sisters, infant Ella and Esther and three brothers, Alvin, Maynard, and Harlan.
