Obituary

It is with shock and extreme sadness that the family of Glenda Dietz announces her passing on Friday, August 4th, 2023 at the age of 66 years as the result of a heart attack and complications during surgery at Sanford Health in Bismarck. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend taken too soon.

Glenda was born on November 21st, 1956 in Elgin, ND to Ben & Lydia (Maier) Luithle. She grew up on a farm north of Burt, where many of her fondest childhood memories were made. Around the age of 5, the family moved to a farm west of Elgin. She lost her dad when she was 11, then things got tough with her mom and brother having to work extra hours to keep things afloat. She leaned on her family and special friends to get her through those tough years. She attended school in Elgin and graduated in 1975. She always said she was a "tomboy" and an animal lover "the furry kind of animals".

In the fall of 1975, she started dating a young man that had his eye on her for quite some time, Chester. She said she always dreamed of marrying a farm boy and she did. They married on February 27th, 1976 and started their life together on the farm. They raised various crops and cattle. Mom was always out alongside dad helping when she could. She was a very hardworking farmer/rancher. She drove tractors, trucks, stacked bales, washed equipment (spotless), calved out the cows, cleaned bins-just about anything you can think of.

In 1985, they welcomed their first daughter, Alecia, on their Anniversary. In 1988, they welcomed their second daughter, Melissa, during their Anniversary month. Mom was a very dedicated mother and was there for us for everything we needed throughout our lives whether it was homework, events, advice or just an ear to listen to our thoughts. She made sure she was home to cook us supper every night growing up and enjoyed having us all around the table.

Her life took a turn on June 1st, 2010, when she survived a horrible four-wheeler accident. She had a guardian angel with her that day to come out of it walking & talking. It took some time to heal but it didn't slow her down too much. Even though she was in a lot of pain, she didn't let it show. She always had to be doing something. Even after the accident, she made sure the yard was neat and tidy. You could find her mowing, pressure washing equipment, cleaning the shop & tractors, pulling weeds, making the neatest looking ear tags for the calves, cooking/baking, gardening, and helping with whatever she could. She was out and about working the day of her heart attack-just like any other day.

She enjoyed many animals throughout her life. She had many stories about her kittens from her childhood and her cow, Queen; horse, Nelly; and dog, Tiny. Her love of animals continued into adulthood with many cats, dogs, cows, and horse-Dolly.

She loved spending time with family and friends. And enjoyed chatting with special friends and cousins on the phone to catch up. She loved having the family get together for BBQs. She also loved going to thrift stores, auction sales and collecting antiques.

In the last few years, her greatest joy came from finally being called "grandma". She loved hanging out with her granddaughter, Prairie. You could find those two doing just about anything together-cooking, baking, coloring, reading, shopping, cleaning, playing, cruising around and best of all-laughing and hugging each other.

Growing up, she attended church alongside her family at Newburg Congregational Church north of Burt. After marriage, she attended church at Zoar United Methodist Church south of New Leipzig. She had a lot of faith in the Lord and always said "the Good Lord takes us when it is our time; there's nothing you can do to change His timing". I guess it was your time to finally be pain free, mom. But we are heartbroken, and we sure miss you here!

She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 47 years, Chester; daughter, Melissa Dietz and special friend, Bo; daughter and son-in-law, Alecia and Matthew Tishmack; granddaughter, Prairie Tishmack; mother-in-law, Ruby Dietz, all of New Leipzig, ND; aunt, Alvina Kautz; aunt, Diane Maier; many special friends; numerous cousins; and her dogs, Henry & Patches.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Lydia Luithle; her brother, Glen "Sonny" Luithle; her father-in-law, Reinhold Dietz; her grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Honoring mom's wishes, we won't have a funeral. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
