Gladys Hanson was born in Hettinger, ND on November 28, 1916. She was one of six children born to Nels and Johanna Hanson and grew up on the family farm west of Hettinger. Gladys attended school in Hettinger and graduated from Hettinger High School.
Gladys married Arnold Isdal in 1939. They lived in Omaha, NE for awhile where Arnold taught electronics during WWII. Later they moved back to Lemmon where they owned and operated Isdal Radio until Arnold's death in 1969.
In 1949 they had a son, Arnold Carl Isdal. He went by the first name of Carl instead of Arnold to avoid confusion. Carl worked at the radio shop while in school and later left for college in 1967.
In 1981, Gladys married Bill McLaughlin who farmed in the area. They later retired and spent time traveling and did some wintering in Arizona. They maintained a residence in Lemmon. Bill passed away in 1996.
In 2005, Gladys suffered a fall on the ice while getting into her car. She underwent hip surgery and later went to live at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon where she remained until her death.
Gladys was an avid singer. She loved to sing hymns in church and just around the house while doing housework. She often led the singing in the nursing home. She was also a dancer and loved to waltz and polka. She loved "old time music" and used to watch Lawrence Welk on TV.
Gladys passed away on Friday evening, May 27, 2011 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger.
Surviving family members include her son, Carl Isdal, Prescott, AZ; three grandchildren, Brad and Erika of Arizona and Carla of Knoxville, TN; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arnold G. Isdal, her husband, Bill McLaughlin; three sisters, Agnes Goplin, Nellie Becker and Hazel Markegard; and two brothers, Carl and William Hanson.
Visitation will be Sunday 9:00 to 2:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.
