The Mass of Christian Burial for Geri will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND.  Fr. Kerry Prendiville will officiate with burial to follow in the Hettinger Cemetery.  Following the burial, all are invited to the Granary in Hettinger for a time of fellowship and luncheon, even if you are unable to attend the funeral.

Visitation for Geri will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m followed by a Rosary/Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, ND.

Geraldine "Geri" Francis (Mort) Huether was born in Rapid City, SD, on January 29, 1947, to Lowell C. and Bessie (Prendiville) Mort.  She was raised in the Ralph, SD area while attending several grade schools taught by her mother.  She graduated in 1964 from St. Mary's High School in New England, ND.  She went on to pursue her cosmetology degree from Josef's School of Hair Design in Aberdeen, SD, and in 1966 started working for Marty Lutz at Marty's Beauty Shop.

Geri worked for Marty until 1989 when she purchased the business and changed the name to "Geri's Hair Shoppe".  Geri loved her salon work and her loyal customers.  After her retirement in 2010 she sold her shop but continued to do work by assisting the residents of Western Horizons Care Center and Able INC. with their hair needs.

Geri was united in marriage to Duane Albert Huether on August 9, 1969 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND.  To this union a daughter, Sonja was born in 1971.

Duane passed away on January 20, 2013 after nearly 43 years of marriage.  Geri was a wonderful gardener and shared the bounties of her garden with family and friends.  She was also a wonderful cook and made sure that no one went hungry.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and making all sorts of crafts.  She assisted with the CCD program at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND for many years teaching both by lessons and by her Christian example.

Her world was made complete when her grandson Lukus was born in 2002.  She called him her "Buckaroo".  They made many good memories that will not be forgotten.  In 2010 Kinnlee was born 8 days before Geri's birthday.  She was so excited to be adding a granddaughter.  She taught her how to sew and do crafts.

Geri passed away surrounded by her loving family at the Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND, after a 6 month battle with Stage IV Gallbladder Cancer.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Sonja and son-in-law, Andrew Meier, Minot, ND; two grandchildren, Lukus and Kinnlee Meier, Minot, ND; her sister, Danette Thomason, Hettinger, ND; nephews, Dale Huether, Fargo, ND; Lowell (Mandy) Thomason and their children, Kevin, Maxwell, Simon, Gavin, Olivia and Scarlett, all of Bryon, MN, Brandy (Sarah) Thomason and their children, Brianna, Chayanne, and Isaiah, all of Des Moines, IA; and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Bessie Mort; her parents-in-law, Emmanuel and Anna Marie Huether and her husband, Duane Huether.
