George was born in Lidgerwood, ND on October 21, 1936 to John and Beatrice (McShane) Jones.  George grew up in Mott, ND where his dad owned a bakery.  He graduated from Mott Lincoln High school in 1954.  He attended Dickinson State College after graduation.

George married Arloween Lutz, also from Mott, on October 23, 1956.  After they were married George was hired by Frontier Airlines and they moved to Wolf Point, MT for a short time and then to Sydney, MT.  He transferred to Riverton, WY where 2 of their children were born, a Daughter, Terryl and a son, Shawn.  George went to Oklahoma City to train to be an Air Traffic Controller with the FAA, while his wife stayed in Riverton with their children.  They then moved to Great Falls, MT where their son Darrin was born.  From Great Falls they moved to Alaska where they spent a year in Fairbanks before making a permanent home in Anchorage, AK, remaining there for 17 years.  During their time in Anchorage George was involved in sports himself as well as coaching his sons in both hockey and football.

In December 1981, they moved back to Mott and began a new venture in life "Georges Office"; a local pub on main street.  He and his wife worked side by side and made many new friends from across the country as Mott was known as the Pheasant Capital for awhile. George was both a lifelong Elks member as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He served as mayor of Mott from 1990-1994.  He was an assistant football Coach handling the defensive side.  He was coaching when the team went to State in the fall of 1990.  In 1993 George decided to add a deck to the bar with an outdoor grill and no matter the weather started grilling steaks, which was a hit with their customers.

Being part Irish, George started a St. Patrick's Day tradition of corned beef and cabbage, Irish Whiskey and music.  George was the idea maker and his wife Arlo made sure things were taken care of.  They sold the bar in 2000 and started their retirement together.

George's biggest joys in life were his family, friends and playing or watching sports of any kind.  He enjoyed watching his sons play sports as they grew up as well as being blessed to watch his grandsons and great grandchildren play sports as well.  He was so proud of all of them.

George leaves behind his children, Terryl (Dale) Friedt , Mott , ND and Shawn ( Kathy) Jones , Anchorage, AK and his 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  Nick Friedt, Oakes, ND and his children Isabelle, Aliyah and Easton, Tyler (Erika) Jones Anchorage, AK and their children Abigail and Colby, Dylan Jones, Anchorage, AK and his daughter Declyn.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Arlo Jones, son Darrin Jones, his parents John and Bea Jones and brother Robert Jones.
