Frieda Betz was born November 7, 1902 in Kirchardt, Germany to George and Barbara (Brodbach) Betz, near the Black Forest. The eighth child of eleven children, she was educated in Mannheim, Germany. Frieda came to America in 1925 after a courtship by mail with Paul Blickensderfer. They were married September 24, 1926 at the Neuburg Congregational Church north of Burt. They lived and farmed one and a quarter miles west of the church. To this union were born four children. In 1946 they purchased a farm south of Mott. Frieda's life was busy with helping on the farm, working in her garden, knitting and crocheting for her family, and loving and caring for her children and grandchildren. After retiring from farming, Paul and Frieda moved to Mott in 1962. They were both charter members of the Mott Evangelical Community Church. Frieda moved to the Mott Good Samaritan Nursing Center in October of 1996.

Frieda did not have an easy life. Even so, if you visited with her for a while after she turned one hundred, she would eventually say those words that her family has heard her say so often over the years, "You just have to take it as it comes. It doesn't do any good to complain." Frieda was born into Eternal life on January 13, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her son, Paul E. Blickensderfer, her parents and all her brothers and sisters.

Cherishing her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Darlene Blickensderfer, Mott; daughter, Dora McCoy, Racine, WI; daughter, Ruth McNally, Doswell, VA; and daughter-in-law, Edna Keller, Mott. Her 12 grandchildren are: Robert McCoy, David McCoy, Colleen Olsen, and Jeaneen Acklam, Owen Blickensderfer, Vickie Gussiaas, Janel Johannes, and Dwight Blickensderfer; Bennett McNally; John Blickensderfer, Tracy Porter and Kent Blickensderfer. Her 21 great-grandchildren are: Robert Jonathan McCoy, Rachel (McCoy) Ward, Joshua, and Rebekah McCoy; Brandi, Jessica and Daniel McCoy; Daniel and Amy Blickensderfer; Brian, Jon, Jessica and Rebecca Gussiaas; Mark and Emily Johannes; Matthew, Amanda, and Patrick Blickensderfer; Bailee and Sage Blickensderfer; and Joel Porter. She has one great-great grandson, Robert James McCoy.

We, the family of Frieda Blickensderfer, are grateful to all who came today to honor her life and celebrate her home-going with us. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 to 5:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott.
