He graduated from Millersview High School and attended Tarleton State University in Stephensville , Texas. When Janie Grace Chandler transferred to Tarlatan, they fell in love and were married December 19, 1935. After serving as a National AQHA Director for many years, he helped establish the Youth AQHA program and was chosen as one of 19 leaders who became forefathers of the American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame.
