Frances Dorothea (Huber) Atkinson was born March 8th, 1927, to George and Regina Huber at the family homestead in Adams County. Being the 3rd of six siblings she found herself very busy helping with household chores and working at the homestead. Frances spent many hours of her youth herding sheep with her favorite dog Poutz. She learned to appreciate the openness of the prairie and enjoyed the changing seasons of the land.

As a young woman she worked as a dishwasher at the Aristo Café in Lemmon SD. It was during this time that a young man was invited by the owner of the cafe to wash his hands in freshly drawn dishwater. This young man turned out to be her future husband Walter Atkinson. Walter and Frances were married on October 9th 1949 at the Huber family homestead. One memory shared by Frances during this time was spending all day in preparation of the marriage frying chicken for the celebration. This marriage continued for 44 years until Walter's death Dec 31st 1993.

As newlyweds they made their home North of the Cedar River in Grant County North Dakota. As a result of this union two children were born, Avis and Wayde. Frances truly enjoyed her life and was passionate about her garden and raising flowers. She also enjoyed helping with the family dairy operation feeding bucket calves and spent many hours playing with her grandchildren. She was strong in her Faith and truly enjoyed studying the word of god.
