Obituary

Floyd O. Clark, age 94 of Cheboygan, MI; formerly of Bison, SD, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the home of his daughter.

He was born September 8, 1911 in Lemmon, SD to James and Donna (Tripp) Clark, the first of two children. On August 21, 1935 in Bison, Floyd married Eleanor Knutson, who survives.

Floyd graduated from high school in 1929 and enrolled in mechanical engineering curriculum at the University of Minnesota, leaving school in 1931 to return to Lemmon. He moved to Bison in 1933 and accepted a banking position. From 1937 to 1942, he worked for the post office in Bison and thereafter continued his banking employment in Montana until 1945. He bought his farm in 1945 and began his lifelong attraction to farming. Since the farming was not always profitable, he turned again to his banking experience and kept books for area businesses in and around the Bison area.

In 1960, he began office employment with Grand Electric, later moving to Wall for similar employment. Floyd retired in 1966 and sold his farm in 1970. His continued love of farming was then changed to the "garden farming" variety. He was fond of Bison and missed his opportunities for the outdoors greatly as he aged. He closely followed Bison activities through the Bison Courier and had a surprising memory and recall of details. Floyd enjoyed hunting and fishing and has been heard to say "It's tough when your fishing buddies die."

Besides his wife Eleanor, of Cheboygan, Floyd is survived by two children, Lola Jane Ermisch, Cheboygan and Dean (Judy) Clark, of Vermillion, SD; one sister, Marian Fredrickson of Sauk Rapids, MN; eight grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at the Bison Presbyterian Church. Florence Hoff, CLP will officiate and the cremains will be buried in the Bison Cemetery.
