Florence Felt's Obituary
Service of Remembrance for Florence Felt, 95, of Hettinger, ND will be Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hettinger Lutheran Church. Rev. Kathleen Dettmann will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning.
Florence was born April 22, 1920 to Andrew and Emma (Solderholm) Felt. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Sweden in 1919. Florence lived in her family home in Glenfield, ND, moving to the Grafton Developmental Center in 1937 where her job was to take care of babies and young children. She had a wonderful way with people of all ages, but the company of children was her favorite. She was known as Grandma Florence to many of the children visiting her home in Hettinger.
In June 1986, Florence moved from Grafton to a group home in Dickinson and was supported by ABLE, Inc. She and her friend Fern moved together to Hettinger in January 1987 where she resided until her death.
Florence had a passion for coffee with lots of sugar and cream of course. She had nicknames for almost everyone she knew and had a great sense of style from her jewelry down to her shoes. She was one classy lady.
Florence celebrated her 95th birthday with a houseful of guests on April 22 of this year. She loved parties and how fortunate for her friends that they could celebrate one more with her. Florence's family didn't live close but their cards, phone calls, and gifts were ever present. Her sister Delores was always there for Florence and was able to visit and see how happy Florence was in Hettinger. Florence died August 31, 2015 at West River Regional Health Services after a short illness.
Survivors include her sister Delores Halvorson of Port Orchard, WA, sister-in-law Elaine Felt, niece Violet Sharbono, as well as other nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country, and of course her precious ABLE family. Florence was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Emma Felt, brothers Arnold and Andrew Felt, and sisters Liddy Hutchinson and Hildur Dahl.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
