Fern Lorraine Beaumont was born on July 11, 1925 to Alice Mildred (Arneson) and Robert C. Beaumont, the eldest of five children. Fern grew up on the family farm and attended Bucyrus Public School, graduating in 1943. Upon graduation, she ventured to California working for the Treasury Department Bureau of Internal Revenue, returning to the great Dakota plains. A year later Fern started working at the Rexall Drug Store in Hettinger, so often speaking of her experiences there at that soda fountain.

On February 24, 1946, Fern was united in marriage to Joseph Uhler at Miles City, MT, building a new home in 1947, they began farming near Reeder, ND. Together they raised eight children, Barbara Jo (George) Wood, Timothy Gene (Vicki), Terrance Michael (Shirley), Susan Carol (Terry) Fowler, Ginger Michelle, Steven Craig (Cheryl), Kimberly Kaye (Danian) Timm and Stephanie Gaye (Troy) Hack; 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and special "daughter", Shirlene Kessel.

Never was there a dull moment for Fern as long as family and friends were around. Fern could "cook up a storm", especially with her awesome pancakes and homemade sausage supper, not to mention Sunday and Holiday dinners. Mom was a great seamstress, making our special dresses for many occasions

Mom enjoyed reading, writing and this she put to good use when she wrote the Bucyrus News for the Adams County Record for many years. She did this up to when her eyesight started to go. A person didn't call her on news day because she was busy calling and visiting with the neighbors for the news.

Fern also enjoyed her garden and canning up a storm with what she harvested, singing and humming as she worked. We can still remember homemade beet jelly on her freshly baked buns and coming off the school bus and having hot out of the oven caramel rolls.

Fern was a member of the Reeder American Legion Auxiliary for 61 years. Her beautiful hand writing kept her busy as secretary more than once. Fern also enjoyed her homemakers club, "Stitch n' Chatter" and Bucyrus Friendship Club.

In the fall of 1995, Fern and Joe moved to Hettinger. Joe passed away in 1997. Fern continued on enjoying the Senior Center and helping at the Clothes Closet.

Fern entered the Western Horizon's Care Center in 2011. Making that her home, she loved the activities and her social time with the residents. On many occasions, she'd tell us "I'm too busy with activities to visit now!". Mom's spunk and quick wit was something that the residents and employees enjoyed while she was there.

Fern passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017. Fern was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents Mildred and "Chet" Beaumont, three sisters, Helen Lundahl, Beverly Zimmerman and Patricia Arndorfer, brother William "Billy" Beaumont, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Mom was our family Rock! She is going to be missed by her "Eight is Enough" family and friends.

Memorials can be made to the Dakota Prairie Enrichment Center in Reeder, ND.
