Evelyn Weickum was born on September 8, 1928 in New Leipzig, ND to Edward and Olga (Golke) Weickum, and grew up near Burt, ND.
She married Earl Stieg on January 3, 1946 and the couple spent their life on the family farm near Mott, where they raised their four children. They moved their home into Mott in 1998. Earl passed away on July 30, 1999.
Evelyn was an awesome Mom, cook, and baker, always making her family's favorites, including caramel rolls, kuchen and struddles. Her family was her pride and joy. She treasured the times they were all together and was happiest when her home was filled with laughter and fun.
Evelyn loved people and enjoyed helping others. She was an active member of her church, volunteered at the museum and the nursing home, made quilts to send to those in need, and taught Sunday school for many years. She found joy in gardening, loved to quilt and play her keyboard. One of her greatest pleasures was having her friends over for coffee.
Grateful to have shared her life are her sons, Rod (Norene) Stieg, Miles City, MT; Daryl (Bev) Stieg, Mandan, ND; daughters, Kathy Stieg (Ed Green), West Fargo, ND; Melissa Stieg Johnston, Mott, ND; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Rueben Weickum, John Day, OR; several nieces and nephews; and special son, David Koethe, Fargo, ND.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Edvin, Johnny, Herbert, and sisters Elsie, Esther, Gladys, Velma, and Lorine.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott.
