EVELYN A. JOHNSON was born January 26, 1920 at her parents' farm northeast of Carson, ND to Charles and Manda (Twite) Johnson. She grew up on the farm and attended rural country schools and graduated from Thain School near Carson in 1937. She moved to Wisconsin and worked for a couple years and then returned to Carson. She then met Morville Skretteberg and they were united in marriage in Baker, MT on January 22, 1941. They started life on a small farm 7 miles north of Carson. A few years later, they moved to a farm on the Heart River. In 1947, they had to leave that farm, so they moved in with his parents until they could build the house and farmstead they presently live on today 10 miles north of Carson.
Evelyn worked on the farm until they retired, but continued helping out family when she could. She was a very caring and giving person, helping those in need whether it was family, friends, or someone she had never met or knew. She spent her retirement years making quilts and sharing them with every family member. Many of her quilts were given to the church to send to people in need.
Evelyn enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona with her husband, meeting new people and giving where she could. She had an uncaning sense of humor, always joking around telling Norwegian jokes, especially picking on Ole.
Evelyn will be deeply missed by her devoted husband Morville; 3 sons and daughters-in-law; Gary and Audrey, of Carson; Loron and LaVonne, of Carson; Rod and Millie, of Elgin; 4 grandchildren, Diana (Don Schick), Mandan; Chad (Dawn) Skretteberg, Carson; Kristie (Gregg Klusmann), New Salem; Eric (Shannon) Skretteberg, Carson; 9 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Bernice (Harlan Steinley); 1 brother, Omer (Irene) Johnson, all of Bismarck; 1 sister-in-law, Charlotte (Clarence Johnson) Almont; and numerous nieces and nephews; and her special caregivers, Theresa Cummings and Shannon Skretteberg.
Preceding her in death were her parents Charles & Manda Johnson; Morville's parents, Oscar & Mary Skretteberg; 1 son Monte Skretteberg; 1 brother, Clarence Johnson, 1 grandson, Brandon Skretteberg; and 1 great grandson Tucker Schick.
Friends and Family are invited to share thoughts and memories of Evelyn's life from 2 to 4 pm Saturday at there farm home 10 miles north of Carson.
