Obituary

Eva Nyberg, age 93 of Lemmon, passed away on Monday evening, January 28, 2019 at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.

Funeral services for Eva will be held at 1:30 p.m. MT on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.  Pastor Tom Davis will officiate with burial to follow in the Union Cemetery north of Lemmon, SD.

Eva Mae Barnes was born on March 3, 1925 on the family farm north of Lemmon, SD (Adams County), to John Edward and Delilah (Ostenberg) Barnes. Her mother passed away when she was four years old. "I was raised by a father and three brothers, then I got married and had a husband and three sons!" Eva would say when speaking of how her life surrounded by boys toughened her up.

When Eva was 17 she began writing to soldiers in the war. One of those soldiers was Arthur Nyberg. Eva and Arthur fell in love and were married on February 27, 1943, in Spanaway Park, WA. Shortly after they began their happy lives together, Art and Eva accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The rest of their lives, they loved to tell the story of Jesus Christ.

Three sons were born to their union, Art, John and Randy. Eva and Art raised their family on the farm, where Eva helped with the day to day responsibilities. Music was important to them, and for many years they had a radio show which featured them singing and sharing their stories of faith. (It was called Cedar Valley Gospel Airs in the 1950's, Swirling Waters in the 1960's, Train of Life in the 1970's, and finally Lighthouse Ministries in the 1990's.)

Her husband Art passed away on September 21, 2009 and Eva missed him dearly. She continued to live on the farm and eventually moved into Lemmon and entered the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon in 2018 after living with her granddaughter and grandson-in-law for 6 months. Surely she is laughing with her husband now as they enjoy being together again.

When her family members were preparing her obituary, they looked in Eva's well worn Bible for insights into her faith and her heart.  What we found written on the inside cover of her Bible was deeply inspiring. First, a quote from a old hymn; "If we never meet again this side of heaven, I will meet you on that heavenly shore."  Written just below were these words; "Be seeing you, Art…up there!  I love you!"  the date she wrote it was January 27th, 2011...over two years after his passing.  How inspiring and heartening to know that she and Grandpa celebrate their reunion even now!

Eva is survived by three sons, Arthur (Rochelle), Minot, ND, John (Rebecca), Jamestown, ND, and Randy (Barbara), Bemidji, MN; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur; and her siblings, Guy, Walter and Lester.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a family service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon on Sunday, February 3, 2019.
