Mass of Christian Burial for Eugene "Gene" Hoffman, age 91, of Lemmon, SD will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon, SD with Fr. Tony Grossenburg officiating. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD with a Rosary/Vigil service at St. Mary's Catholic Church Monday evening at 7 p.m.

Burial with full military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

Eugene "Gene" James Hoffman was born on December 18, 1927 in Perkins County, SD to Daniel and Mildred (Nilsen) Hoffman. Eugene attended rural country schools, graduating from Lemmon High School in 1946.

He helped on the family farm before being enlisted in 1955. He spent time in Germany as a postal clerk for the US Army. Eugene was honorably discharged on February 28, 1958 and went back to Perkins County to continue helping on the family farm. There, he raised sheep, hogs, and cattle.

Eugene married June Nilsen on July 12, 1968. He continued to farm with his brother Keith, later retiring and moving into Lemmon. Eugene was involved in Lion's Club, Farmer's Union, Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also loved traveling, dancing, visiting with friends over coffee, vacationing in Mexico, and loved his cozy little house.

Eugene passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at CHI St. Alexius in Bismarck, ND.

He is survived by his sister, Esther (Bill) Nagel, Reeder, ND, sister-in-law, Bev Hoffman, Lemmon, SD, step-daughter, Vicki (Jeff) Glanzer, Rapid City, SD, and numerous niece, nephews, and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two siblings, Keith and George, and one step-son, Gene Nilsen.
