Eugene "Gene" Clifford Henderson was born on August 14, 1934, at Dupree, SD. He was the oldest of three sons born to Eugene and Jane (Miller) Henderson. He attended grade school at the Campbell School southwest of Dupree. His family moved to Cherry Creek which they called "Little Ireland. The Campbell School also moved to Cherry Creek at that time.

Gene then began working at the City Bar and the lumberyard. Gene bought back cattle in 1964 and went back into farming and ranching with his father. He soon after bought the place from his dad. When Gene decided to retire, he sold the place to his oldest son Bill.
