Funeral services for Ethel Bubbers, age 97, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Morristown, SD.  Rev. Adam Pilarski will officiate with burial to follow in the Morristown Cemetery.

Ethel Marie Gronlund was born at the family homestead in Sioux County, ND, on December 22, 1921 to Hans and Anna (Halvorson) Gronlund.  She attended country school through the eighth grade then began working at home.  She also did work for neighbors until starting a job at Hansen's Grocery Store in Morristown, SD.  She was fortunate to take a vacation with her parents and was able to spend 6 months in Norway.

Ethel was united in marriage to Ernest Wendell Bubbers on June 13, 1954.  To this union two children were born, Karen and Fred.  She worked on the farm with her husband, selling cream and eggs in the area.  In the 1970's she began working as a waitress at the Whitetail Lounge, the Steak House, the Truck Stop and the Busted T until retiring in the early 1990's.

Ethel was an avid bowler for many years, and was an accomplished seamstress in the Lemmon community.  Her lefse making skills were known as some of the best in the area.  In 2017 she entered the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, where she enjoyed many activities and her time there.

Ethel passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Dave) Zoeller, and Fred (LouAnn) Bubbers, all of Lemmon, SD; her grandchildren, Sonja (Ryan) Beyers and Chris (Amanda) Goben, Plevna, MT; Heather (Dane) Steig, Minot, ND, Trista (Josh) Smude, Minot, ND and Nicole (Casey) Cummings, Ramstein, Germany; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Katus, Lemmon, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell; her brothers, Arne and Einar; two grandsons, Brian and Michael Goben; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Grace Bubbers; brother-in-law, Paul Katus; and her nephew, Joel Gronlund.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.
