Esther V. Hochhalter, age 99 of Glen Ullin, formerly of New Leipzig, passed away on Monday evening, October 31, 2016 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin, ND.

The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am MT, Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin. Pastor Brian Knutson will officiate with burial in the Congregational Cemetery at New Leipzig.

Esther V. Haase was born on May 4, 1917 in Elgin, ND to Nathaniel and Louise (Schmidt) Haase. She grew up north of New Leipzig and attended a country school near her home. She was united in marriage to Alvin H. Hochhalter on June 12, 1944. They farmed and ranched together south of New Leipzig. In the mid 1950's, they purchased a home in New Leipzig, but they continued to farm and ranch.

Alvin passed away in 2005 and Esther continued to live in New Leipzig until moving to Dakota Hills where she resided for 3 years and then moved to Glen Ullin, ND.

Esther enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Surviving family members include a son, Donald Hochhalter, New Leipzig, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers, Adam, John, Dan, and Otto Haase; sisters, Pauline Hertz, Louise Krause, Rebecca Haase, Martha Buchwitz, and Ida Baesler, Hilda Tietz and sister-in-law, Ella Haase.
