Ervin Milton Farstad was born on January 28, 1934, during the Great Depression and dust bowl to Herbert and Esther (Halverson) Farstad on their family farm north of Morristown, SD, in Sioux County, ND. In September of 1941 the family moved to a farm three miles north of Watauga, SD.

He attended grade school at Silent Butte Country School for eight years. Following his schooling he remained at home helping his Dad with chores and field work. In 1967 he moved to Rapid City, SD and attended the Black Hills Workshop and Training Center. In 1983 he moved to the farm affiliated with the training center and while there he took care of the chickens.

Ervin heard of LIVE Inc. in march of 1985 and decided to move back home to Lemmon. He enjoyed going to the workshop daily. When he was old enough to retire he decided to keep working as long as his health would allow.

Ervin loved spending time at family functions, always remembered everyone and had plenty of questions about where they all were and how they were doing. Ever since he was a child, he loved to spend time on the farm. He would take the family dog and walk or ride his bike through the country enjoying all the joys of nature and exploring old building sights. He loved the Lord and would get up on Sunday morning and ask "Do I get to go to Church?". His favorite hymn was "The Old Rugged Cross".

Ervin passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

He is survived by two sisters, Caroline Nehl, McIntosh, SD and Evelyn McGregor, Watauga, SD; one sister-in-law, Anna Farstad, Mesa, AZ; the staff and residents of LIVE Inc. in Lemmon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1950, his father in 1993; his brothers, Leonard Farstad in 2012, Lloyd Farstad in infancy in 1943; twin sisters in infancy, Agnes and Anna Farstad in 1941, Carol Farstad in infacy in 1943 and one sister in infancy in 1950; and brothers-in-law, Edmund Dirk in 1957, Bernard Nehl in 1995 and James A. McGregor in 2006.
