Elmer was born on October 28, 1932, in Dickinson, N.D. He was one of ten children born to John and Christine (Metz) Staudinger and was raised in Richardton, ND. He served in the U.S. Army from March 4,1954 to February 18, 1956, holding the responsibility as a tank driver and mechanic. He was enlisted in service for two years, spending a year each in Fort Riley, Kansas, and Wiesbaden, Germany.
After his enlistment, Elmer returned home to the Richardton area and in 1957, he married Florence Aman, and together they had 6 children. They spent a short time in Richardton before they moved to Mott to raise their family.
Elmer was a hard worker, laboring as a farmer for many years to provide for his family. In 1984 he started employment with the State Highway Department where he worked on Highway Maintenance for ten years before he retired. Even after his retirement with the State, he still continued to farm.
In his free time, Elmer loved to garden! He had quite the 'green thumb', growing and preserving vegetables and fruit, and his 'claim to fame' was taking 1st place at the 'world's fair" in Mott for growing the biggest Kohlrabi! Elmer was an avid card player, and always struck good luck at Bingo and slot machines! He loved watching game shows, especially "Wheel of Fortune", where he tried hard to be the first to get the right answer! He proudly represented the American Legion in Mott, ND where he held membership for over 50 years.
Elmer is survived by his children, Ellen (Randy) Herauf, Harker Heights, Texas; Jeff (Carol) Staudinger, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Kevin (Linda) Staudinger, Belfield, ND; Lisa (Hank) Ratliff, Aurora, Colorado; Susan (David) O'Neill, Whitewood, SD. 9 grandkids and 12 great grand kids, and brother Dick Staudinger.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine, son, Dean, brothers Frank, Joseph, Dwayne, sisters Louise, Regina, Deloris, Magdalena, and Margie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Legion in Mott, ND.
