Elaine Mary (Timpe) Hochhalter was born to Walter and Olga (Olson) Timpe in Almont, ND, on December 28, 1928. They lived in Almont until Elaine was 10 years old and then they moved to a farm in the surrounding area. Elaine went to a one room country school until she was in the 9th grade. She graduated from Almont High School in 1946 and then attended Dickinson State Teachers College. She acquired a 2nd grade Elementary Teacher's Certificate and taught for 2 years in the Simms District until her marriage to Raymond Hochhalter.

Raymond and Elaine were married February 8, 1948 and moved to a farm south of Elgin where their 5 children were born – Marilyn, Ricky, Susan, Rhonda and Lori. In 1975 they sold the farm and moved into town. Elaine worked at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center in Dietary for 26½ years.

Elaine was gentle, caring and had a great sence of humor and she always looked for the good in people.  She was a great wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.

Elaine loved listening to old time country music and enjoyed trips with her daughters & daughter-in-law to Nashville, Branson and Dollywood to take in some of the country music entertainment. When her dad was still living, she would chord on the piano while he played the fiddle and her son Rick would strum on the wash basin drum. She enjoyed reading biography books about her favorite country western singers.

Elaine will be greatly missed by her children, Marilyn (Melvin) Scherr of Lander, WY, Rick (Ronae) Hochhalter of Elgin, ND, Susan Schock (Dan Dienstmann) of Bismarck ND, Rhonda Veitz of Spearfish, SD and Lori (Scott) Wolff of Minot ND, thirteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, one sister-in-law, Luella Hochhalter, one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice and Doug Zeller and many nieces and nephews.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her parents, Walter and Olga (Olson) Timpe, three brothers, Wallace, Marvin and Bob Timpe, three sisters, Evelyn (Timpe) Bachmann, Olive (Timpe) Held and Shirley (Timpe) Engbrect, her grandson Buck Chad Schock and her sons-in-law Bobby Schock and Larry Veitz.

Mom always had great advice for us kids, one of her favorite being, "Use that thing on top of your shoulders".
