EDWIN WILLIAM BORCHERT "Eddie" was called home on June 10, 2006 at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin.

Eddie was born September 16, 1916 at Winthrop, MN to William and Theresa (Papenfus) Borchert. In 1917, the family moved to a farm 14 miles northeast of Carson. He grew up there and attended a rural school. Eddie farmed with his family and later took over the family farm. He also worked as a mechanic and he cleared land with his dozer. Eddie loved to work on antique machinery and he loved to attend antique shows and auction sales.

Eddie was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Carson, and over the years served on the board in many different capacities.

Due to his failing health, Eddie moved from the farm into Carson, then into Dakota Hills in Elgin. He later entered the Jacobson Memorial Care Center.

During the time he lived in Carson he was a member of the Grant County Historical Society. He enjoyed helping to preserve old buildings and old machinery that are now on display. Eddie was also a member of the West River Teamsters Wagon Train, and enjoyed this very much until health forced him to not participate.

Eddie liked to play cards, and at family gatherings was always an event. Many card games were played at the Carson Restaurant over coffee breaks. He enjoyed driving around the country and checking crops during the growing season.

Eddie enjoyed family gatherings and friends, and was a friend to most people that he met. His farm neighbors were very special to him.

Eddie is survived by his two nieces, Carol (Kanter) Lilley, Las Vegas, NV; Kristine (Kanter) Zimmerman, Scottsdale, AZ; and a great nephew, Mark Kanter, Johnson Creek, WI.

Grateful for sharing his life through the good times and bad are many cousins and friends who loved him very much.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Raymond and Arnold Borchert; his sister-in-law, Evalyn Rose Borchert; his two sisters, Eleanor Borchert, and Francis (Borchert) Kanter; and his brother-in-law, Lyle Kanter, and his nephew, Dale Kanter.
