Rosary for Edith C. Steier, age 86 of Dickinson, formerly of Reeder, ND will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. all at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reeder, ND. Fr. Stephen Folorunso will officiate. Inurnment with Full Military Honors will be on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. CT at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery south of Mandan, ND.


Edith Clara (Calkins) Steier went to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ December 24th, 2014 at St. Benedict Nursing Home in Dickinson, ND.

Edith was born April 5th, 1928, daughter of Victor and Gladys (Grodavent) Calkins in Neapolis, Ohio. Edith was the youngest of 8 children. After graduating from Liberty Center in Toledo in 1946, Edith went to Davis Business College in Toledo graduating in 1950, where she was a member of the Alfa Loga Society. Edith joined the Air Force in 1950. She met Joe Steier and they were united in marriage, at Hamilton Air Force Base, California, on February 3, 1951. Edith was Honorably Discharged on July 12th, 1951. She and Joe had 2 children while in California, Margaret and Anton, before moving back to the family farm in North Dakota in 1953, and having 8 more children.


Edith belonged to the American Legion and Auxiliary where she was a life time member. She was a member of the Reeder Catholic Church Alter Guild. Edith loved to read romance novels and crochet blankets and dolls which she gave to her children and different organizations for fundraising.


Edith is survived by her 10 children, Margaret (Jim) Rask, Riverdale, ND; Anton Steier (friend-Jeannie) Billings, MT; George Steier, Boise, ID; Antoinette (Don) Fuller, River Falls, WI; Loretta (Keith) Schank, Dickinson, ND; David (Julie) Steier, Sacramento, CA; Victor (Roxanne) Steier, Round Rock, TX; Sandra Steier, Mandan, ND; Theresa Stagl (friend-Simon) Mandan, ND; Robert (Roberta) Steier, Reeder, ND, 15 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Joe, her parents, her 2 sisters, 5 brothers, and 2 great grandchildren.
