Funeral services for Dorothy Walter, age 95, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at the New Hope Worship Center in Lemmon, SD.  Pastor Rand Bentley and Pastor Ed Cloninger will officiate with burial to follow in the Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.

Visitation will be on Friday morning, one hour prior to services at the church.

Dorothy (Skooglund) Goodman Walter was born on September 11, 1925, in St. Paul, MN, to Olga and Joseph Skooglund.  In 1928 she moved with her parents to North Dakota where they took over her grandfather's farm.  She attended all eight years in North Dakota country schools, graduating from Lemmon High School in 1944.  Following her graduation she attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD and earned a 2 ^nd grade certificate with permitted her to teach at a country school in South Dakota.  She returned home in the spring and worked for her parents in their café, later going to work at the JC Penny store.  In the fall of 1946 she went to Seattle, WA, to attend Northwest Bible College for one year.  She again returned home to work for the First National Bank until she married Clyde Goodman in October of 1947.  To that union were born three children: Ellen, Beverly and David.  During their marriage they lived in Iowa, Montana, Kansas and South Dakota.

In the early 1960's she returned to Lemmon where she raised her three children while working at different business places.

On September 1, 1973, she was united in marriage to Allen Walter.  While still in good health they enjoyed traveling in the winter for ten years, meeting many new friends.  Dorothy started working at the Petrified Wood Park in 1982, a job she loved.  Going to church and taking part in the activities was a big part of her life.  She enjoyed painting dish towels for her girls, reading Christian books and having coffee with her friends.

Dorothy passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Olga and Joe Skooglund; her husband Allen Walter and her son, David Goodman.

She is survived by her daughters, Ellen (Edward) Cloninger and Beverly (Paul) Lewis; six grandchildren, Matthew Cloninger, Brent Cloninger, Ryan Goodman, Rebecca Goodman, James Lewis and Summer (Lewis) Hawkinson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
