Dorothy M. Vigoren was born on Aug. 19, 1915 to Andrew and Velma (Lewis) Vigoren at Camp Crook, SD. She grew up in the family sod house near Camp Crook and rode horseback to a rural school. She later worked for her board and room and attended High School in Hettinger, ND.
She was united in marriage to Carl "Herman" Berglund on Aug. 23, 1933 at Bucyrus, ND and they began their life together moving to Belle Fourche that same year. He worked as a mechanic for a time and later they operated a trucking business in the West River area. In 1950 they established Berglund Standard Service where Dorothy took an active part as secretary, bookkeeper, and would often help service vehicles. Herman passed away on March 28, 1964 and Dorothy continued to operate the business until selling out a year later. She then received her G. E. D. so she could attend Black Hills State College. She was married to Chuck Root and they later divorced.
Dorothy began working as a receptionist-secretary for Medical Clinics in Belle Fourche and later clerked at the Four Seasons and the Town and Country Mall. Never lacking ambition, she also cleaned homes for a time and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. Of utmost importance were her family and her church.
She was a Charter member of the Belle Fourche Wesleyan Church and the Missionary Society and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose.
Most grateful for sharing her life are her daughter and son in law; Joy and Bill Ribordy of Belle Fourche, grandchildren; Renee and Colin Thompson of Whitewood and Ron and Sonia Ribordy of Belle Fourche, great grandchildren; Callie and Courtnie Huber, Troy Thompson, Ryan and Reese Ribordy, sisters in law; Lorraine Vigoren, Izell Berglund and Fern Ryther as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
