Dorothy Brackel, age 90 of Elgin, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin, ND.

Private Family service for Dorothy will be Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND.  Rev. Kathleen Dettmann will officiate and burial will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Elgin.  Dorothy's service will be livestream here on her obituary page for those who wish to watch the service.

Dorothy Mae Brackel was born March 16, 1931 in Elgin, ND to Ben and Freda (Nagel) Roth. She attended Elgin Public Schools. Dorothy was united in marriage to Ted Brackel on April 27, 1950. They opened a small jewelry store in Elgin in October of 1950.

In the book "The Dash" the author says the dash that is between the day you were born and the day you die is a very important symbol. Dorothy did so many things in that time period. She raised four beautiful children, worked for her community endless hours making things better and more beautiful. It showed in her store, church, golf course, school reunions, Lions Club and her yard. There will be no one that will ever make as many beautiful floats and decorated yard as she did.

After she had her stroke in May of 2009, she spent the next 12 1/2 years in the Elgin Care Center. How frustrating it must have been for her with no means of communication for all those years, but yet each time you walked into her room you were greeted by her beautiful smile. Dorothy was a true warrior until the very end.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children Rhonda Brackel, Edgeley, ND, Jeanette Porter, Omaha, NE, Kent (Kathleen) Brackel, Hettinger, ND, Barry Brackel, Elgin, ND. Seven grandchildren, Casey Porter, Omaha, NE, Janell (Byron) Grenier, Nikiski, AK, Kelsey (Sadie) Brackel, Elgin, ND, Kyle (Erin) Brackel, Reeder, ND, Shasta (Travis) Brown, Bismarck, ND, Derek (Katherine) Brackel, Hettinger, ND Ashley (Tim) Palmquist, Warroad, MN, 13 great grandchildren, brother Dennis (Veryl) Roth, Elgin, ND, sisters Jackie Seibel, Elgin, ND and Kim Heidelman, Peterborough, NH.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, her husband, Theodore "Ted" Brackel, brother Kenneth Roth, sisters Joyce (Duane) Wahl, Bernice Dettmann, Patsy (Jerome) Schriock. Brother-In-Laws Kenneth Seibel and Bob (Fran) Brackel, son-in-law Grady Porter, grandsons Keith Olson and Cole Porter.
