Funeral services for Dorothea Peterson, age 92, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the New Hope Worship Center in Lemmon, SD. Rev. Alan Swanson will officiate with burial to follow in the Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.

Dorothea Ann Peterson was born on the Peterson farm, February 16, 1925 to Carl J. and Augusta Marie (Anderson) Peterson in Menz Township, Sioux County, ND. She was the twelfth child of thirteen in all.

Dorothea, or "Dottie" as she was nicknamed, attended country school in Menz Township and then high school in Lemmon, SD. The summer following graduation, she attended a business college in Bismarck, ND.

Dottie was then hired by the manager of JC Penny's in Lemmon as a bookkeeper and worked there until she was transferred to the store in Bismarck, ND. She worked as bookkeeper or office manager for JC Penny's for a total of 52 ½ years.

Dottie was a faitful member of the Church of God (Headquarters in Cleveland, TN), was active in Child Evangelism and taught Sunday School for decades. She also served as treasurer of the Covenant Community Church of God for 47 years.

On November 14, 2017, Dottie suffered a massive stroke and was in Sanford Hospital until she passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 5:01 p.m. She was surrounded by family and friends all week and they showered her with hugs, kisses, prayers and beautiful hymns.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her sister, Esther Virginia Peterson; sisters-in-law, Phyliss and Lillian Peterson and dozens of nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a family service at 6:30 p.m. all on Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.
