Mass of Christian Burial for Donna Maher, age 89, of Lemmon, SD, formerly of Morristown, SD, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon, SD with Fr. Dan Juelfs officiating.  Burial will follow at the Morristown Cemetery in Morristown, SD.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.  A rosary/vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, August 19, 2020 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon.

Services Wednesday evening and Thursday morning will be live streamed through Donna's obituary on our website and will begin 15 minutes prior to the start of the services.

Donna Mae (Hilsendager) Maher was born on January 30th, 1931 on her parents farm north of Watauga, SD, to John and Johanna (Meyer) Hilsendager.  The fall of 1936 her parents moved to a farm north of Morristown which they purchased a few years later. At a dance in Morristown, Donna was reacquainted with a neighbor boy. (Mick Maher) They married October 7th 1950. To this union 12 children were born. Donna was an amazing woman. Along with the children,  she did all the cooking, cleaning, laundry. Donna would have a hot meal every morning & evening. She also found time to make desert. One of everyone's favorite was her peach pie.  Donna made all sorts of candies every Christmas.

Donna did many things, went to N.C.B. College in Rapid City, played on a women's softball league in Morristown, member of alter society, finance officer for Morristown, worked at the post office, home health care & decorated cakes.

Donna planted a big garden & raised a few hundred chickens. She would can or freeze the food for the family to eat during the winter months.

Donna loved to sew, crochet & quilt. She made all her children a quilt.  She made  pillows for her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, & gave lots more away. Most of all she loved when her family members, or friends stopped to visit. She hated to see her kids leave.

Donna passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.

Donna is survived by her ten sons, Mike (Marcia) Maher, Isabel, SD, Ed (Judy) Maher, Morristown, SD, Kevin (Mary) Maher, Rapid City, SD, Ken (Cindy) Maher, New Salem, ND, Keith (Candy) Maher, Billings, MT, Pat (Rhonda) Maher, Dickinson, ND, Nick (Deb) Maher, Bowman, ND, Rick (Cheryl) Maher, Rapid City, SD, Jeff (Bobby) Maher, Dickinson, ND and John (Monica) Maher, Billings, MT; two daughters, Linda (Tim) Garrett, Spring Creek, NV and Jody (Myron) Schmidt, Colstrip, MT; 42 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Hilsendager, Yuma, AZ, Frank (Connie) Hilsendager, Greeley, CO; sister-in-law, Helen Hilsendager, Bismarck, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mickey; sister, Alice (DuWayne) Olson; brother Gordon Hilsendager; and a  grandson, Cody Maher.
