Funeral services for Donna M. Fried, age 80, of Shadehill, SD will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Bentley Memorial Building in Bison, SD. Pastor Phil Hahn and Pastor Loyd Veal will officiate with burial in the Bison Cemetery.

Special music will be provided by Cora Fried, Todd and Tracy Buer.

Serving as casketbearers are Brandon, Aaron, and Bradley Fried, Jonathan Stetler, Tom Tetzlaff, and Todd Buer. All friends and relative are considered honorary bearers.

Donna Marie Stiles was born January 3, 1930 at Mankato, MN to Alonzo and Blanche (Woods) Stiles. She grew up on the family farm, attended grade school close to the farm and graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1948. She then attended Sioux Falls College for one year. In 1949 she moved to Bison, SD where she taught rural schools for two years.

Donna married Herbert Fried May 26, 1951. They established their home on the Fried Homestead near Shadehill. She resided there since and raised her family of 1 daughter and 2 sons. She was Marshfield Township treasurer for 25 years and a 51 year Charter Member of the Town and Country Extension Club. Donna was the recipient of the Perkins County Honored Homemaker Award in 2001.

She enjoyed yard work, especially growing flowers, keeping up her home, baking, especially buns, and helping to operate the farm and ranch.

Donna enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family, crocheting, knitting, writing and receiving letters.

She was an active member of the Grace Baptist Church of Bison, SD and held many offices in Sunday School and Visionaries during her life time.

Donna passed from this life on Saturday, October 9 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD of complications from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Saddened by the passing are her husband, Herbert, Shadehill, SD; her 3 children, Nancy and Danny Stetler, Lincoln, NE; Steve and Cora Fried, Rapid City, SD; Stanley and Cheryl Fried of rural Bison, SD; 5 grandchildren, Amanda (Tom) Tetzlaff, Jonathan (Tina) Stetler, Brandon Fried, Aaron (Kaitlin) Fried, and Bradley Fried; 1 great grandson, Grant Tetzlaff; 1 brother, John "Jack" Stiles, Lake Crystal, MN, numerous neices and nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Bentley Memorial Building in Bison, SD.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Elaine Umphrey, and 1 brother, Richard Stiles.
