Deryce M. Lawler was born February 11, 1917 in Harrison Nebraska. She was the daughter of John and Mabel (Claire) Lawler. Deryce grew up on a farm located near the Nebraska and Wyoming border. On May 11, 1938 she was united in marriage to Joe S. Reed in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Following their marriage they lived at Lance Creek Wyoming and later Lusk Wyoming where they ranched and worked livestock. For nine years they ranched near Ekalaka Montana, and for 10 years near Watford City, North Dakota. During all of their ranching years, Deryce was an important partner. She spent years providing meals to all the hired hands, and running errands. She was a hard working and devoted ranch wife. In 1969 they retired to Belle Fourche.
Deryce will be remembered for her sense of humor. She was always "one up" on people, and she enjoyed making people laugh. In her younger years she enjoyed teaching ceramic classes to people. She was a good wife and mother and will be missed greatly.
