Dennis Marthaller, age 65, formerly of Hettinger, ND, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, ND, with Fr. Stephen Folorunso officiating.

Dennis Keith Marthaller, 65, of Mandan, ND, died on Tuesday December 13th 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo after a brief battle with cancer. He was born to Milton and Ethelyn (Remington) Marthaller on October 16th,1951 in Regent, ND. He attended school in Hettinger, ND and St. Gertrude's in Raleigh, ND.

He entered the military in 1971 and served in Vietnam. In 1970 he married Nikki Clement, and together they had 2 children, Justin (Katie) Marthaller and Tonya (Jeff) Stippich. Dennis later married Michele Gaylord, and together they raised 3 children, Mark (Kelly) Thormodsgard, Holly (Tony) Flach and Heidi (Tony) Johnson. His daughter, Bridget (Robert) Vandeputte, was born in 1995.

Dennis worked for the United States Postal Service for 18 years, owned and operated the Summerville Store, was a master chef, a carpenter, and a commercial driver. Dennis was always surrounded by friends, a canine companion and was always willing to give you the shirt off his back. Dennis had a deep love for his country, was proud of his military background, and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Dennis was a large man with a jovial laugh who lived life to the fullest…damn the consequences.


He will be greatly missed. Dennis is survived by his children, mother, Ethelyn (Remington) Marthaller, sister, Beverly (Michael) Hansberry, Brothers, Duey (Char) Marthaller and Ron (Judy) Marthaller, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Terri Hofland, father, Milton Marthaller and grandson, Jameson Marthaller. Memorials may be made in Dennis' name to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial fund.
