Delwin Lee
Petrick
Jan 4, 1951 — May 11, 2018
Elgin
Delwin Lee Petrick was called home in the early morning of May 11 th at St. Alexius Medical Center, after a 3 year struggle with Prostate Cancer. Del (the 2 nd of 6 siblings) was born on January 4 th , 1951 to Norbert and Louise (Shafer) Petrick at Trinity Hospital in Minot. He was raised on the family farm in Makoti, ND with his siblings, Terry, Judy, Mitzi, Patti and Bruce. Del was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Makoti, graduated from Makoti High School in 1969 and graduated from UND with a degree in accounting in 1974. He met the love of his life, Gail Hintz, at his first job in Langdon, ND. They were married on June 11 th , 1977 and started their life together in Bismarck, ND. 1980 was a big year for them. They welcomed their twins, Ryan and Renae on February 17, and returned to the Hintz family Farmstead where they worked their farm and raised their family.
Their daughter, Danielle was born on October 12 th of 1985. The family has now grown to include a daughter in law (Amanda), a son in law (Justin) and 4 beautiful grandchildren (Eva, Lane, Abigail, and Elizabeth).
While his children were growing, Del participated in several school functions but was a staple at their sporting events. He continued his passion by still attending sporting events in Elgin, even after his kids were no longer playing. He also tried to attend as many of his nieces and nephews games as well, over the years.
Del was a pillar of the community, participating in and/also serving as Grant County Farmers Union President and Mor Gran Sou Electric Company Director and President for several years. He was also an active member of Ebenezer UCC church where he served as treasurer for the better part of 30 years.
The family farm became his life's work and he continued to work the farm until the time of his death. Planting season, haying season, harvest time and working cattle defined the seasons. A prominent sign on the family farm was, "My heart is in Farming, but my Ass is in Debt."
Del did not allow this final illness to define the way he lived his life. He took the treatment, worked on the farm, visited exotic parts of the world, and participated in any family activities with enthusiasm. In early 2017, Del directed his sisters to organize a Petrick family reunion. Held in Bismarck in July of 2017, this 3 day party will be a treasured memory to nearly all of the 54 descendants of Norbert and Louise Petrick.
This man was a steady presence in the lives of his family. He was a great son, a good brother, an amazing husband, dedicated father, and a proud grandfather.
He leaves behind a family who will miss him terribly. His wife, Gail, His children Renae Petrick, Danielle (Justin) Keeler, Ryan (Amanda) Petrick and their four children, Eva, Lane, Abigail, & Elizabeth. His Siblings Judy (Ben) Kubischta, Mitzi (Jaycin) Sundheim, Patti (John) Clemo, and Bruce (Nyariana) Petrick, His brother in-law Jerry Hintz (Rita) and sisters-in-law Marilyn Petrick, Mary Ann Hintz, and Rona Reis, along with many Nieces and Nephews.
Del was preceded in Death by his older brother Terry, who died of the same disease in 2008, his grandparents Ferd and Alma Petrick and Fred and Frances Shafer, his parents Norbert and Louise, his In-laws, Esther and Edwin Hintz and his brother in-laws, Wayne Hintz, and Tom Reis.
