Beverly "Dee" Moore was born on October 20, 1944, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming, to Norman "Sonny" and Nellie "Nell" (Wenande) Moore. Four years later, her younger sister, Pat, joined the family. They raised cattle and sheep on the family ranch approximately twenty-five miles west of Devils Tower in Crook County, Wyoming.

As a young girl, Dee learned many valuable life skills from her dad. At an early age, Sonny had her riding horses, driving anything with wheels, backing up trailers, and working in the hay fields. Riding and rodeo became an important part of Dee's life, and she and Sonny competed in many rodeos together over the years. Dee loved to ride fast and won numerous buckles, purses, spurs, and other awards throughout her youth. During her senior year of high school, she won the Wyoming High School Rodeo Championship in goat tying as well as the rodeo queen title. That same rodeo, she also placed in breakaway roping, barrel racing, and pole bending. She later won the horsemanship portion of the National High School Rodeo Queen Contest. Dee was especially proud of this accomplishment because she competed on ranch-raised, self-trained horses rather than the expensive, professionally trained horses many of the other contestants rode.

Her mother, Nell, also played a significant role in Dee's early life as both her mother and teacher at the Hulett Creek School, a one-room country school. Dee often shared fond memories of recess, when the students would spend their time ice skating and sledding. During high school, Dee lived in Gillette, sixty-five miles from the family ranch, while attending Campbell County High School, where she graduated in 1962.

Dee attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie for one year before transferring to Black Hills State College in Spearfish, South Dakota, where she majored in elementary education. It was there that she met Bill Kohn, and the two were married in 1965. In 1967, they moved to Lemmon, South Dakota, where Dee taught second grade for two years.

Family was always Dee's greatest priority. When she and Bill began raising their family, she chose to stay home with their children during their younger years. Tina was born in 1970, Ryan in 1975, and Toni in 1977. Dee treasured those years, teaching her children countless life skills and creating lasting memories with family vacations and weekends at their cabin on Shadehill Lake. Her children truly were the center of her world.

As her children grew older, Dee returned to work. She often talked about the fun she, Bill, and Mel & Dee Maxon had while managing the country club for two summers. She later owned and managed a clothing store, helped Bill operate Kohn's Sport Shop, and worked at Gregorian and Wheeler's. In later years, Dee found great fulfillment working at Five Counties Nursing Home, first in assisted living and later in the activities department, where she enjoyed caring for and spending time with the residents. Dee was also a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

If there was one phrase that best described Dee, it was "all in." Whether she was cooking, crafting, or collecting, she poured her whole heart into everything she did. She loved visiting with friends and family and never passed up an opportunity for a good conversation. Dee was especially proud of her eight grandchildren and spent countless hours on her bleacher seat in stadiums, gymnasiums, football fields, and track venues across South Dakota and North Dakota, cheering them on. Dee was selected as the Lemmon Sports Booster's Fan of the year in 2023. She was overjoyed to welcome the newest member of the family, her great-grandson, who was born in March.

Above all else, Dee cherished her family. As a young woman, she was always there when loved ones faced illness or difficult times. Whether sitting faithfully beside a hospital bed or helping keep things running at home, she could always be counted on. That same compassion and servant's heart remained with her throughout her life. Whenever family or friends needed help, Dee was there without hesitation, offering her time, love, and unwavering support.

Dee passed away from this life at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, with her family at her side.

Dee will be greatly missed by her children Tina (Vance) Trogstad, Ryan (Jeanna) Kohn, and Toni (Tracy) Hoffman; her grandchildren Chloe (Jake) Kolb, Talon Trogstad, Tayte, Allie & Jordyn Kohn, Lyric, Jet and Scout Hoffman; great-grandson Banks Kolb; and many beloved cousins and their spouses, especially Debbie (Arlyn) Anderson, Marianne Wenande and Ron McCartney.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sonny & Nell Moore; sister, Pat (Moore) Ellis; brother-in-law, Ralph Ellis; former spouse, Bill Kohn; in-laws Bob & Kathleen Kohn; uncle and aunt, Bob & Bonnie Wenande, and cousins Bill Wenande and Dianne Wenande McCartney.
